Vote Today to help Citymeals win a Toyota van

Today is the day. I need your help.

I am asking everyone I know and love or don’t know but communicate with to help Citymeals-on-Wheels win a Toyota Sienna mini-van for our Mobile Food Pantry.  Thirty years ago James Beard and I recruited food world friends to help expand desperately needed meal deliveries to several thousand frail homebound New Yorkers who could no longer shop or cook for themselves…many of them alone in small flats or single room occupancy hotels, having outlived mates and friends, childless or with children scattered.  New Yorkers rallied around us and Citymeals has grown, last year delivering two million meals to 16,000 needy neighbors.

Now Citymeals is a finalist in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program. Today, July 20, I need you to go to www.facebook.com/toyota.  Click on the text line “100 Cars for Good” on the left side under “Welcome.”  Then click on “Vote Today,” click on “Allow” and vote for Citymeals-0n-Wheels.

The van will help us launch our New Mobile Food Pantry, another effort in the lifeline we provide that permits aging New Yorkers to remain in the familiar walls they know as home…even until the end.

Age and illness have left many New Yorkers prisoners in their homes,  unable to navigate the stairs, no longer strong enough to shop or carry groceries home. When I see their faces on meal delivery rounds, I am reminded of my grandmother and my own late mother and I feel enriched…Please take a minute to help today, Wednesday July 20.
